A LITTLE ABOUT NIXIE CLOCK The main element of the clock is gas-discharge indicators, which, unfortunately, have not been released for a long time. To find these indicators every year becomes more and more difficult. All gas-discharge indicators are attracted by its unusual and beautiful glow that does not compare with modern display devices. Gas-discharge indicators are the only element in clocks from the distant past! The rest of the electronics is modern. My Nixie clock used the IN-14 discharge indicators, which were released in the Soviet Union. To extend the tube life in the clock, there are 2 modes that allow you to do this. The first mode is turned on twice a day at 9.00. At this time, within 1-2 minutes, each cathode (digit) is updated with an increased current. You can observe this in the form of a bright glow of each digit on each tube. The second mode provides a quick search of all the digits on all the tubes, this mode is turned on every 20 minutes. Thanks to these modes, the service life of the indicators is significantly increased. The clock cases are made on the CNC milling machine with subsequent manual modification. Materials for housings from valuable species of wood, such as mahogany (sapele), guibourtia, Black walnut, wenge, etc. All wooden cases are impregnated with special oils that give off a hidden texture. Also to improve the appearance in some cases, special lacquers are used. A characteristic feature of the clock is the RGB backlight, which can work both in static mode and in dynamic mode (overflow mode of colors throughout the palette), in this mode the user can independently select the backlight color he likes and fix it. In static mode, the following colors are predefined: red, green, blue, orange, white, blue, lilac. The backlight of the clock is divided into the backlight of the tubes themselves and the backlighting of the space under the clock, which creates an additional lighting effect. For uniform light scattering, frosted plexiglass is installed under the clock. It is also possible to select the brightness of the backlight (8 glow modes), or turn it off completely, which is important for true connoisseurs of tube glow.
